What to Do and not Do when Diving Komodo
When diving in Komodo National Park, there are several things you should do and not do to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience:
Do's
- Use a reputable and experienced dive center...This means more than just a local dive guide...you need a properly setup boat with the right safety equipment, experienced captains and crew who also know the sites, conditions and currents and a support team on land should issues occur.
- Follow the dive guide's instructions: Your dive guide is there to ensure your safety and help you have a great dive experience. Follow their instructions and recommendations.
- Respect marine life: Observe marine life from a safe distance, avoid touching or disturbing the animals, and do not feed them.
- Be aware of your surroundings: Keep an eye out for other divers and any potential hazards, such as strong currents or low visibility.
- Respect the environment: Do not touch or damage the coral, and do not litter in the water or on the beach. Leave nothing but bubbles!
Don'ts
- Dive beyond your limits: Only dive within your certified level of experience and comfort. If you're not sure about something, ask your dive guide for help.
- Fly after diving: Wait at least 18 hours after diving before flying to prevent decompression sickness.
- Touch anything you're unsure of: Some marine animals can be dangerous, so avoid touching or getting too close to anything you're not familiar with.
- Use gloves, dive over weighted, or lay or stand on the corals unless it is an emergency.
- Take anything from the ocean: Do not remove or take any marine life, coral, or other natural items from the ocean.
By following these guidelines, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable diving experience in Komodo National Park.
